How to Install a Rubber Strap on Rolex Cosmograph Daytona
Replacing the original watch strap with a premium rubber strap is one of the most popular upgrades for the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. A high-quality rubber strap provides a sportier appearance, improved comfort, and a more versatile style for daily wear.
Our rubber strap for Daytona is designed for Rolex Cosmograph Daytona models, including popular references such as Rolex 116508 / 126518 / 116518, offering a secure fit while maintaining the luxury appearance of gold Daytona watches.
For owners who like the style of the Oysterflex bracelet Daytona, a custom rubber strap can provide a similar sporty aesthetic with different color and material options.

Tools Required
Before starting, prepare:
- Suitable screwdriver
- Spring bar tool
- Pin tool
- Protective tape or watch protection film
- Soft working surface
Tip: When working on precious metal Daytona models such as yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold versions, always protect the polished case and lugs to avoid scratches.
1. Remove the Original Rolex Daytona Clasp

First, remove the original clasp from the rubber strap or Oysterflex-style bracelet.
Use a suitable screwdriver to remove the clasp screws.
For brand-new watches, the screws may be very tight because Rolex often applies sealing wax. If necessary, gently warm the screw area with a heat gun before loosening.
Steps:
- Remove the side screw on the clasp.
- Pull out the clasp pin.
- Separate the clasp from the rubber strap.
After removing the clasp, continue removing the strap from the watch case.
For more information about the Rolex clasp, spring bars, lugs, and other watch components, see our Rolex Parts Name Guide.

Important: When removing the clasp from the original bracelet, make sure to keep this section of the bracelet. It will be needed for reinstallation and should not be discarded.

2. Remove the Original Strap From the Daytona Case
Place the watch case back facing upward.
- Press the strap slightly with your finger to create a small gap.
- Insert the fork end of the spring bar tool into the gap.
- Push the spring bar inward.
- Remove one side of the strap.
- Repeat the same process on the opposite side.
Important:
When removing the original bracelet or strap, keep the original end pieces/components. Some parts are required if you want to restore the watch to its original configuration in the future.

3. Install the Replacement Rubber Strap For Daytona
Before installation, identify the correct strap direction.
Place the watch dial and clasp facing upward:
- The Rolex crown logo should face upward.
- The shorter strap section goes on the 6 o’clock side.
- The longer strap section goes on the 12 o’clock side.
Installing the strap in the wrong direction may cause the watch to sit incorrectly on the wrist.
Installation Steps:
- Insert the spring bar into the rubber strap.
- Position the strap between the Daytona lugs.
- Use the spring bar tool to compress one side of the spring bar.
- Press the strap downward while gently moving it until the spring bar locks into place.
- Listen for the “click” sound.
After installation, pull the strap firmly to confirm it is securely attached.

Professional Tip: Protect the Daytona Case
Before installation, apply protective film around the lugs and polished surfaces
The protective film helps prevent accidental scratches during strap replacement.
4. Install the Rolex Daytona Clasp
Install the clasp according to the original position.
For easier installation, open the clasp first.
- Align the strap end with the clasp.
- Insert the clasp pin.
- Tighten the screw carefully.
Do not overtighten. Tighten until secure.

What If the Strap Is Too Loose or Too Tight?
After installing the rubber strap, try the watch on your wrist and check the fit. If the strap feels too loose or too tight, you can first adjust it using the clasp.
1. Adjust the Strap Size
The Daytona clasp provides several adjustment positions for fine-tuning the strap length.
The clasp normally includes:
3 adjustment holes
Approximately 2–4mm spacing between holes
Around 1cm of total adjustment range
Choose the adjustment hole that provides the most comfortable fit. This allows you to make small size adjustments without replacing the strap.
As shown in the image, use a spring bar tool to remove the spring bar, then reinstall it into the adjustment hole that provides the best fit for your wrist.

2. What If Clasp Adjustment Is Not Enough?
If the available clasp adjustment cannot provide a comfortable fit for your wrist, the strap size may not be suitable and a different strap length may be required.
For this reason, we recommend confirming your required strap size before purchasing a rubber strapfor Daytona. This can help avoid ordering a strap that is too long or too short.
Below are several methods you can use to confirm the correct size before placing your order.

| Strap Length | Wrist Circumference |
|---|---|
| 50+50mm | ≤15cm |
| 50+60mm | 15–16cm |
| 60+60mm | 16–17cm |
| 50+70mm | 17–18cm |
| 60+70mm | 18–19cm |
| 70+70mm | 19–21cm |
